Why Medicine and Orthopedics
From a young age, Dr. Wright had an interest in science and medicine. Growing up with a younger brother who had advanced cerebral palsy inspired compassion for patients, their families, and a desire to learn more about medicine and how to care for others. Through close family friends, Dr. Wright had the opportunity to observe surgery at a young age and he knew immediately he had found his calling. He was excited by the ability to improve a patient’s life so quickly through surgery and was motivated to work hard to achieve this goal throughout college and medical school. In medical school he spent time on the orthopedic service and enjoyed the patients, the work, and how much orthopedic patients improved over time. During residency, Dr. Wright had a comprehensive education in orthopedic surgery and enjoyed performing many types of surgery including pediatric surgery, arthroscopy and sports, trauma, hand, foot and ankle, and tumor. He ultimately decided to further subspecialize in joint replacement because he enjoys caring for these patients, relieving pain, restoring functional ability, and fixing problems related to arthritis.
